Much has been said about the benefits of buying local, yet it is not in our heads and minds yet when we go shopping. "Shopping has to be easy and it is most succesful in the city." That is how Mr. and Mrs Consumer seem to think. Well, we would like to make it easy for you to shop for the goods and services your neighbours provide, by making the information in the Upriver Business & Community Directory available to you.
The directory contains information that may convince you that you do not need to take your money and time to the city to get what you need and the conversation with the local business owner may leave you with another surprise, a lower or atleast very competitive price.
If you have not given shopping locally much thought or need some argumentative support to make a doubtful family member look at the directory you may want to look at this
presentation (originally an Open Office Impress file, for this purpose reduced to a .pdf file prepared as a university project. But be careful: the file has 14MB, this is nothing for dial-up internet ...).
The directory contains not only business information, but also listings of governmental services such as police and schools in the area, of libraries, community halls, churches and much more.
The directory is available in printed form, which was delivered to all mail boxes in the Upriver Area and can be downloaded in form of a pdf file
here.
Print has many benefits such as that you can take it anywhere, but it also has drawbacks, such as that it is quickly missing newer information and it takes longer to research. This is where the online version of the Upriver Directory comes in:
you can search what you are looking for by
location, by
sector and by
product. If you still can not find it, perhaps you will get more hits by doing a
full search of the text. Click any of the links in this paragraph and you will be taken to the right page.
